- Arizona Leather
- Upcycled antique chair
This was my grandmother her chair. By the time I took it in home, it had not been used for three years. Really allowing the smell to set in and ooze out. So keeping in it house in its original state was not an option. In one of the pictures it show staples of squares, leftovers from my pencil cases. I save all my rest pieces and I had quite a few from the Arizona line. So I just started stripping it bare to find straw, jute and copper springs. The smell was horrible and very dusty. After removing all nails, I used wood fill and sanding paper to clean up. The back is made up of cuts from straps and my favorite sweaters. Most of them I have worn till literally falling apart. So I cut them up even more and glued them all together with white glue I don’t plan on using anymore before it is rock solid. for the seating I tried my best to use the copping springs, but couldn’t make it work. So just opted to use wood from my old desk as bottom, filled with a layer of split leather, which was kind of hard to sit on. So bought two of the cheapest pillows I could find and add that filling to it. The backside is still not finished, I played with the idea of using other leather or some fabric. But decided against it and just going to wait until I have enough Arizona leftovers. Made this chair in about 115 hours, in 3 weeks. Loved every second of it, but this was my first and most likely last chair. It’s my grandma’s chair.
